Cefn Coed Colliery, Crynant, C. 1950.

Opened by the Llwynonn Colliery Company during the 1920's.

The Big Vein seam was reached at a depth of 750 yards. Other seams worked at this colliery were Peacock, Dulais, White Four Feet and the Nine Feet.

By 1928 it was taken over by the Amalgamated Anthracite Collieries Ltd

In 1945 there were 908 men employed at this Anthracite colliery.

Winding was done by steam power, the boilers being supplied by gas, which was pumped from the old workings.

This colliery ceased production in 1968, but the shafts were kept open to provide access and ventilation for the New Blaenant drift mine, which occupied the same site.
