Blaenserchan Colliery, Nr. Pontypool.
The first Blaenserchan shaft was sunk to the Tillery Seam at 113 yards in 1890 by Partridge Jones & Co. Ltd.
From the Inspector of Mines list 1896, there were 436 men employed producing Housecoal from the Tillery seam.
It's shaft was deepened to reach the Steam Coal levels at 362 yards in 1899.
Ventilation came from the Llanerch downcast before the second shaft was sunk in 1913 at a depth of 354 yards.
In 1918 together with the Llanerch colliery there were 2,060 men employed.
From a list 1923 Blaenserchan employed 1,105 men, working the Meadow Vein, Black Vein and Big Vein seams.
At the time of Nationalisation in 1947 there were 720 men employed.
In 1969 coal winding ceased at Blaenserchan when all the coal produced was routed underground through Tirpentwys Colliery and onto Hafodrynys for processing.
All changed again in 1977 when Blaenserchan's coal reached the surface via the drift at Abertillery New Mine.
Blaenserchan closed in 1985.
