Engine Pit, Tredegar
Sunk in 1843 by the Tredegar Company to a depth of 107 yards.
It was the first pit in the Sirhowy valley to raise its coal by steam power, it seems likely that's how it got its name.
Later the owners were the Ebbw Vale Steel, Iron and Coal Co. and it was worked in conjunction with the Ganister pit.
In 1908 there were 18 men employed.
Although it had been closed for many years it wasn't until 1997 that the shaft was finally capped.
