Gwenallt Colliery, Cwmffrwdoer
Situated near Pontypool this pit also called "Jack Pit".
The owners in 1880 are listed as Blaendare Coal Co. Limited and it is shown at this time to be "in liquidation".
Later owned by Partridge Jones & John Paton Ltd. until Nationalisation 1947.
In 1908 there were 208 men employed, and 125 by 1918. Although in 1923 there was only 25 men working at the colliery, producing from the Big Vein seam.
During 1945 there were only four men employed underground "driving a cross measure", four others worked on the surface.
It closed in 1952.
This is the only information I have at present about this colliery.
