Cwmtillery Red Ash (Llanerch Padarn), 2007.
This colliery situated in the Tillery valley consisted of several levels at different sites (over a period of time), all working the Tillery (Red Ash) seam.
It was first started in 1888 by the South Wales Colliery Co. Ltd., but abandoned in the same year.
Restarted in 1889 by Cwmtillery Red Ash Colliery Co. Ltd., who worked it through until 1909 except for a strike 1903-05 and for repairs during 1908 when employing only 4 men. During 1896 there were 60 employed.
From 1912 reappears as Red ash Levels "opening", under Lancaster's Steam Coal Collieries Ltd. These were abandoned 21st February 1914. Listed as "Idle" in 1918.
The Lancaster Company restarted the mine in 1930, reproducing in 1931.
Three new levels were opened at the Llanerch Padarn site in 1934.
In 1938 and 1945 the workforce numbered (in total) 186 and 108 respectively.
It was closed by the N.C.B. in January 1949.
