The Darran consisted of a series of  levels in this area, which were first started as far back as 1810

It's main Drift was later owned by Jane Jones of the Darran Firebrick Works, for which it supplied fireclay and coal for the kilns.

From the Inspector on Mines list 1896, there were 21 men employed, producing coal and clay from the No.1, Hard Vein and Sun seams.

By 1908 it was in the hands of the Star Brick and Tile Co. and in this year employing only 8 men.

The ownership later reverted to Darran Firebrick Works Co., who employed 11 men in 1918, but by 1923 it was listed as closed.

It was later reopened by W.O.Padfield to work fireclay. Finally closing in 1942.
