Erskine (Pen Mynydd) early 1970's

Situated above Llanhilleth on the eastern side of the valley it was tarted in 1927 under the Erskine Colly Co. Ltd.

Erskine comprised a number of levels over time, Nos. 1 to 3 and Jenny Nos. 1 & 2.

It worked the Mynyddislwyn top and bottom seams and at it's peak it employed above 50 men.

In 1938 and 1945 there were 19 and 30 men employed repectively.

The company closed it in 1947 but later in June the same year it was reopened as Pen Mynydd.

Owership changed hands several times over the years until it's final closure in April 1974.
