William Richards opened a mine at Golynos, Talywain around 1860. He also owned an Ironworks in the same district; together they were called Golynos Works.

Messrs. Partridge and Jones also opened a slope around the same time; this also went by the name Golynos.

By 1880 William Richards owned Golynos Slope and Works.

From the Inspector of Mines list 1896, Golynos Nos.1&2 pits were working in conjunction with Abersychan Big Pits, employing a total of 501 men, producing House and Steam coal. At this time the Abersychan Elled Co owned it

Later the Powell's Tillery Steam coal Co. took it over and in 1908 employed 591.

It was closed down after the Company opened the Navigation colliery (Powell's Navigation) in 1913.
