I had a relative - Harry Bull who worked at the Marine Colliery, Cwm and lived with his wife Holly at 94 Marine Street. Not sure what date he started work, but from what I can remember he worked most of his life there. I'm now 58, but as a child we used to stay in Cwm for a week every year, and I used to love going down to the colliery watching the coal being brought up by the massive steam winding engines. Everything seem so big when you are young !
Anybody out there who new Harry Bull ?

Hi,
Just a note to say that this years Durham Miners Gala is to be held on the 12th of July. It was estimated that last year over 60 banners (Welsh included) were marched through the city led by over 30 bands, with an overall attendance of 50,000+. It is an excellent event for those interested in mining history and brass / pipe music and if anyone would like more information with regard to directions, itinary, etc. I would be more than happy to help.

Hello. I am trying to trace any info about my grandfather JAMES WILLIAM WHITE who I believe worked in Deep Navigation . He was born 1876. I think he could have died in a colliery accident. Thanks. I lived in Treharris from 1945 -55. My father was Jimmy White, hworked in the colliery too-and was a founding member of the Dan y Graig club. We lived in Mary street. Cheers.

Mary Wheeler.Thank you for reply.I am currently doing O'neill family tree and as i wrote in guestbook on 29th April 08 i believe i had four generations of O'neill's born and living at Cardiff Rd,including my own father William who left 1944 to go to Birmingham.I know the name of his grandfather Edward O'neill but not his wife.[it could be Catherin Ann Jarmen] is there any way of finding out who lived in any of the houses in Abercynon.Last known relative at the address was Marion ? nee Riley, died about 6-8 years ago. Its so hard to know what to ask when you want to know everything.Any information you can supply will be greatly appreciated.I do remember going to that house as a little girl, i'm 55yrs old now. Thanks Karen.

Hi, Very interesting site. I worked in the Grange Coke Ovens in the Abbey Works in both the 80s & 90s. Great bunch of lads to work with.
I was wondering if the battery was still there or has it been demolished?
