A Welsh Coal Mines web page

My brother was a miner.

My brother was a mining lad. From the age of fifteen he thought it grand,.
To have a job in the Maerdy pit with most of his school mates, they were a click.
His face was black his eyes were pink through the dust of the mine that clung to their
skin.
But he thought it grand to work down the pit.

But when the Maerdy pit closed down,
He could only think of, what do I do now,
So he put on his cap and looked for a job
Because you can't do much without a few bob.

He still thinks of his days in the Maerdy pit,
And of his pals that was in the click,
But now he's too old to do any work,
So just reminices about the Maerdy pit.
